New requirements set out by the government, may affect Sports, Beauty and Complementary Therapy businesses across England from the end of this month. The changes, effective from the 31st of March 2025, will apply to all businesses with more than 10 staff, even if those employees are spread across several locations. Businesses with less than 10 staff will have until 31st March 2027 to comply.
Under the new rules, food waste, cardboard and paper and dry recycling (plastic, metal and glass) can no longer be disposed of with residual non-recyclable waste. Businesses must ensure waste is separated and collected correctly. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) has confirmed that compliance notices will be issued to businesses that do not comply with the new rules, but no specific penalties have been outlined.
