ATL – Association of Therapy Lecturers
Judith initially completed one of the newly combined Hair and Beauty courses at Barnsley College in the 1980s and after a few years of working in the industry, went on to open her own hair and beauty salon. It was one of the first salons of its kind and Judith has been instrumental in nurturing the growth and development of the hair, beauty and holistic therapy industry ever since.
Her first teaching role within hairdressing and beauty therapy was in the newly acclaimed and innovative NVQs, before she progressed onto a wider range of beauty and complementary therapy programmes in further and higher education (FE and HE, respectively). During that time, she continued to expand her own knowledge, gaining an extensive list of qualifications next to her name.
Her passion for reiki was sparked after reading an article in Cosmopolitan magazine in the Spring of 1995. Judith was fascinated by this remarkable healing technique and, to this day, much of her freelance work is centred on her devotion to practising and teaching this subject.
The old adage ‘beauty comes from within’ resonated deeply within Judith and she was drawn to investigate further the benefits of other complementary therapies with a view to studying the holistic and environmental effect on the mind, body and soul - both physically and psychologically.
She has since taught many therapies, including different types of massage, aromatherapy, reflexology and, of course, reiki, both in the UK and abroad.
Judith’s enthusiasm for alternative therapies also extended to Chinese feng shui, where she has worked with various experts prior to developing her own accredited short courses. In recent months she was honoured and privileged to visit the Yun Lin Temple of Feng Shui, located in Berkeley, California.
Judith’s educational experience has given her the knowledge and expertise to write course material for FE and HE programmes and external examination papers, and to offer advice on subject content for complementary therapy foundation degree courses, together with supporting and guiding the northern UK colleges and universities as an external verifier, moderator and specialist tutor.
After being a proud FHT member for many years, Judith is honoured by the prospect of sharing her extensive knowledge by encouraging and supporting the FHT’s Association of Therapy Lecturers (ATL).
